Let the removal & appointment within requested by Senators Pomeroy & Lane be made, unless there be some reason to the contrary unknown to me. A. LINCOLN
March 18. 1862.
Annotation
[1] AES, DLC-RTL. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Mark W. Delahay, March 14, 1862, signed also by Senators Samuel C. Pomeroy and James H. Lane, recommending ``Michael J. Gulish [Greelish?] Esq as a valuable Irish Republican. . . to the Position of Forage Master at Fort Leavenworth in Place of George McGlouflin the Present incumbent for whose removal we respectfully now ask.'' The letter also is endorsed in John Hay's handwriting ``Referred back from the Secretary of War.'' No further reference to this removal and appointment has been found.
