I do not remember Curtis H. Hall, the writer of the within; but Daniel E. Ruckel, mentioned, was a dear friend of mine; and any favor done a member of his family would be appreciated by me.

March 13, 1862. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   AES, RPB. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Curtis H. Hall, Hackensack, New Jersey, March 10, 1862, asking for a recommendation to a place in the New York Customs House. Hall's wife was the daughter of the late Daniel E. Ruckel of Springfield, Illinois. There is no record of Hall's appointment.
