Hon. Sec. of Navy Executive Mansion
My dear Sir March 11. 1862

Comodore Foote's telegram of the 10th. has just been sent me. Please have the requisition made in it, filled as soon as possible. Yours truly A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   ALS, OCHP. Foote's telegram of March 10 was transmitted to Lincoln by Henry A. Wise of the Navy Department on March 11, with the comment that ``the requests contained therein have been complied with.'' Foote requested ``9 extra chains for gun boats of 11/4 ins, sent immediately. . . . 4 Dahlgren rifled guns of 8000 pounds weight, fitted complete with carriages and all. They are for the `Eastport' Prize Gunboat; with 300 shells for each of the Rifled guns. . . .'' (DLC-RTL). In an earlier telegram to Wise, March 1, Foote called attention to the fact that he had received no reply to his request to have ``the Rebel Gun boat `Eastport,' lately captured in the Tennessee River, fitted up as a Gun boat.'' (Ibid.).
