Annotation
[1] ADS, owned by William H. Townsend, Lexington, Kentucky. Early in February, Thomas (``Tad'') Lincoln and his brother William Wallace (``Willie'') had contracted a fever. On February 20, Willie died, and ``Tad'' remained in a serious condition for many days. Lincoln's check is a memento of ``Tad's'' gradual recuperation.
