[1]   AES, DNA WR RG 107, Secretary of War, Personnel Appointments, Box 13. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Nathan M. Knapp, Winchester, Illinois, January 24, 1862, requesting appointment of Edward Baker Jerome, nephew of the late Colonel Edward D. Baker, as second lieutenant in the Regular Army. Stanton's nomination of Jerome on March 7 was confirmed by the Senate March 24, 1862.
