[1]   ALS, CSmH. Senator Powell of Kentucky wrote on January 29, 1862, requesting the president to ``look into'' the case of Samuel B. Churchill of St. Louis, arrested October 19, 1861, for aiding and abetting the enemy and ``who had been assessed by military authorities at St. Louis, for the purpose of providing certain persons said to have been driven from their homes.'' (DLC-RTL).
