Let Samuel D. Sturgis, of the Regular Army, be appointed a Brigadier General of Volunteers; and, if possible let the appointment take date of August 10th. 1861, corresponding with the battle of Springfield, or Wilson's creek, in which he done a conspicuous & honorable part. Yours truly A. LINCOLN
