Endorsement: Letter of James Speed1Jump to section

The letter I mentioned to you some time ago. Please read & return to me. A. LINCOLN

Jan. 29, 1862.

Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC-RTL. Lincoln's endorsement is written on the back of a lengthy letter from James Speed, December 22, 1861, reporting on affairs in Kentucky, with particular reference to the obstructionist activities of Governor Beriah Magoffin and the general loyalty of the legislature and citizens of the state. There is no hint as to whom Lincoln forwarded the letter.
