The convention was ratified without amendment on February 10; the treaty was reported with amendments on February 19 and after further amendment on April 8 was ratified on April 9, 1862. The delay in ratification of the treaty made necessary an extension of the time limit for exchange of ratifications. See Lincoln to the Senate, April 15, infra.
