Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC-RTL. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Representative William Vandever, January 4, 1862, recommending Henry O'Conner of Muscatine and William B. Fairfield of Charles City, Iowa, for appointment as commissioners to adjust allotment of Iowa soldiers. Vandever's undated reply, below Lincoln's endorsement, regrets that he cannot get concurrent recommendations from the other Iowa members of congress and asks that if other recommendations are made, his own be given ``such weight as you think them justly entitled to.''
