Do we have need of the property this good old patriot so kindly offers us? A. LINCOLN
Dec. 28. 1861
Annotation
[1] AES, DLC-RTL. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Representative James K. Moorhead, December 28, 1861, enclosing a letter from Philip Winebiddle offering land at Erie or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as an armory site. Totten's reply of December 30, pointed out that ``Until Pittsburg or Erie shall have been selected. . . it would seem to be inappropriate. . . to receive the property. . . .'' (Ibid.).
