Appointment of George R. Edwards1Jump to section

I do not know the position into which I could put Mr. Edwards.

Dec. 28. 1861. A.L.

Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC-RTL. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from George R. Edwards, Washington, D.C., December 27, 1861, enclosing recommendations from ``the most prominent men in the state of Illinois.'' According to the recommendations, Edwards had published a Republican paper at Shawneetown, Illinois, in 1860, had lost his right arm and was needy.
