Breckinridge, Danville, Kentucky, to Representative Henry Grider, December 13, 1861, asking a commission for his son Joseph C. Breckinridge, serving as aide-de-camp without rank or pay under General George H. Thomas. Joseph C. Breckinridge was appointed first lieutenant dating from August 30, 1861.
