[1] AES, DNA WR RG 94, U.S. Military Academy, 1861, No. 199, Box 77. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Colonel Ebenezer S. Sibley, December 14, 1861, asking appointment of his stepson, son of Captain William H. Churchill who had died during the Mexican War. Richard C. Churchill entered West Point July 1, 1862.
