[1]   AES, owned by Foreman M. Lebold, Chicago, Illinois. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Brigadier General Charles C. Gilbert, commanding the Tenth Division, Army of the Ohio, and troops on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, December 4, 1862, asking appointment of Second Lieutenant John Speed (son of James Speed) of the Ninth Kentucky Cavalry, as a captain in the Adjutant General's Department. The appointment was made as of March 11, 1863.
