[1]   Copy, DNA WR RG 107, Secretary of War, Register of Letters Received, P 5, Irregular Book 5. A copy of Lincoln's endorsement is preserved in the Register notation of his referral of a letter from Governor Richard Yates of Illinois, asking leave of absence for Colonel Alonzo W. Mack of the Seventy-sixth Illinois Volunteers, who resigned on January 7, 1863. Yates' letter with Lincoln's endorsement is missing from the file.
