[1] AES, IHi. Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter of John W. True to William P. Dole, Union City, Tennessee, November 25, 1862: ``I am & have been for the past year Adjutant of the 54th Regt Ill Vol. being in turn at Cairo Ill Columbus Ky & for the past five months guarding the Mobile & O. RR. and am tired of this country, around Union City, besides (I tell you in confidence) that I do not admire some of our Field officers.
