The writers of these two letters are democrats earnestly and efficiently supporting the War; and I would be pleased for them to be obliged in the matter mentioned so soon as it can consistently be done. A. LINCOLN

Dec. 9. 1861.

Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC-Cameron Papers. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Isaac B. Curran, Springfield, Illinois, November 2, 1861, enclosing another letter from former Governor John Moore, both introducing and recommending Samuel C. Gibson, attorney and real estate agent at Springfield, to Senator Orville H. Browning. Browning forwarded the letters to Lincoln with his own letter recommending Gibson for appointment as assistant quartermaster and making other recommendations. There is no record of Gibson's appointment.
