[1] AES, DNA NR RG 48, Applications, Registers and Receivers, General Land Office, California, Box 1276. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Aaron A. Sargent, November 18, 1862, recommending that Charles A. Murdock be appointed register of the Land Office at Humboldt, California, in place of Alvan Flanders, ``who has failed to qualify.'' Murdock's appointment was confirmed by the Senate on December 23, 1862.
