Post of the Eighth Illinois Infantry, October 16, 1862, bearing concurring endorsements by Major General John A. McClernand and Brigadier General Benjamin M. Prentiss in favor of First Lieutenant Joseph F. Wilson's appointment as paymaster or assistant commissary. Joseph F. Wilson, a lawyer of Peoria, Illinois, had been seriously wounded at Fort Donelson in such a way as to affect his power of speech. He was appointed captain and commissary of subsistence November 26, 1862.
