Annotation

[1]   ALS, RPB. Brigadier General Charles D. Jameson of Maine contracted fever after the Battle of Fair Oaks and died November 6, 1862. No reply to Lincoln's telegram has been found, but AGO General Orders No. 175, October 31, 1862, revoked ``So much of `General Orders' No. 125, as dismisses Lieutenant R. P. Crawford, Aide-de-Camp . . . .'' who had been dismissed for being absent without proper leave. First Lieutenant Robert P. Crawford is listed with the Fifty-seventh Pennsylvania Infantry from February 10, 1862, and was appointed captain and assistant adjutant general of Volunteers on September 4, 1863.
