[1]   AES, RPB. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a telegram from George C. Bates, Chicago, Illinois, October 15, 1862, ``My only son Lt Kinsie Bates 1st US Infantry resigns because I foolishly published a letter of his from Corinth The fault was all mine, not his. Do not let it be accepted Pity a Fathers weakness.'' Lieutenant Kinzie Bates was brevetted captain as of October 4, 1862, for services at Corinth, Mississippi.
