[1] AES, RPB. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Miller of the First Minnesota Regiment, August 17, 1861, recommending that Colonel Willis A. Gorman of the same regiment be made a brigadier general. Winfield Scott endorsed ``I cordially unite in recommending. . . . '' Gorman was appointed brigadier general, September 7, 1861.
