Lincoln's endorsement is written on the back of the application and list of recommendations of Antonio Buchignani for the consulship at Venice or Nice, August--- 1861. No appointment for Buchignani is listed in the U.S. Official Register, 1861, but in 1863 he is listed as messenger in the House of Representatives.
