[1] AES, owned by R. E. Burdick, New York City. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter signed by Ohio members of congress recommending Newton Schleich, Democratic leader of the Ohio Senate, who had been appointed brigadier of Ohio State Troops by Governor Dennison. Schleich served from April 1 to September 23, 1862, as colonel of the Sixty-first Ohio Volunteers.
