Will the Vice-President please please [sic] procure Professor Hitchcock to preach, as indicated by Gov. Morgan? Yours as ever
A. LINCOLN
Annotation
[1] AES, CSmH. Lincoln's endorsement is written on the back of a letter from Edwin D. Morgan to Lincoln, dated July 8, 1861, recommending a sermon which
Morgan had heard preached by Reverend Roswell D. Hitchcock, professor at Union Theological Seminary, New York City. ``Professor Hitchcock is going to Washington. . . . can you not get him to preach . . . next Sunday morning---and go yourself & hear him. His sermon will do great good. . . . ''
