Annotation

[1]   Anderson Galleries Catalog 1669, October 16-19, 1922, No. 695. According to the catalog description Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter from Seward about appointing Richard Robertson of California as consul. On July 10, 1861, Richard L. Robertson was nominated consul at Mazatlan. He was confirmed by the Senate on July 26.
