[1]   ALS, The Rosenbach Company, Philadelphia and New York. Colfax's letter of May 26, began ``Although you may regard my writing you again as rather presumptious, when I do not know whether my letters are acceptable. . . . '' and gave a summary of information gleaned from New York politicians, to the effect that the opposition's only hope in that state was for disaffection in Republican ranks resulting from Seward's failure (DLC-RTL).
