I am quite sure you are not aware how much I am disobliged by the refusal to give Mr. F. S. Evans a place in the Custom-House. I had no thought that the men to whom I had given the higher officers [sic] would be so ready to disoblige me. I still wish you would give Mr. Evans the place of Deputy Naval Officer. Yours &c. A.
