[1] Copy, DLC-RTL. The copy is in Nicolay's handwriting, but bears the incorrect date ``Feb. 9, 1864'' in another hand. There is also in the Lincoln Papers a rough copy or draft in another hand, which may be the transcript made at the time of Lincoln's reply, and revised by Nicolay for the press. The text in the New York Herald, February 27, 1861, is verbally the same.
