My old friend, Henry Chew, the bearer of this, is in a stra[i]ght for some furniture to commence house-keeping. If any person will furnish him, Twenty-five dollars worth, and he does not pay for it by the first of January next, I will. A. LINCOLN

Annotation
[1] ADS, DLC-RTL. At the bottom of the document appears the following: ``Witness---/ C. M. Sherfy.'' Across the face, badly blotted, appears what seems to be as follows: ``Paid by check, sent to A. Lincoln.'' On February 16, 1859, S. Little of Urbana, Illinois, wrote Lincoln, enclosing the document and requesting a draft to cover the amount (DLC-RTL). Lincoln sent a draft on H. A. Tucker, February 21, 1859. Henry Chew appears in the Sangamo Journal, March 7, 1844, as a member of the Springfield Whig Clay Club.
