Annotation

[1]   ALS, RPB. Horace White of the Chicago Press and Tribune wrote February 10, enclosing a letter from Charles Billinghurst, Republican ex-congressman from Wisconsin (1855-1859) who was in ignorance concerning Lincoln's address (DLC-RTL).

[2]   Lincoln did not know that he was to speak at Cooper Institute until he arrived in New York.

[3]   The letter to Billinghurst is presumably not extant.
