[1]   ALS, owned by Mrs. Yeatman Anderson, Cincinnati, Ohio. Presumably Lincoln received Galloway's letter after he had written the business letter to Galloway on July 27, supra.

[2]   Reverend William M. Reynolds, D.D., president of Illinois University and pastor of the English Lutheran Church at Springfield. Galloway wrote of visiting ``my relatives Dr. Reynolds family'' (DLC-RTL).

[3]   Chief Justice Joseph R. Swan of the Ohio Supreme Court, who handed down the verdict upholding the fugitive slave law in a habeas corpus case.
