Form Letter [To Duff Green] [1]

Dear Sir Springfield Ills. June 5. '49

Would you as soon I should have the Genl. Land Office as any other Illinoian? [2] If you would, write me to that effect at Washington where I shall be soon. No time to loose. Yours in haste

[1]   Copy, DLC-RTL. Not in Lincoln's hand, this copy was presumably one of many sent out. It was returned with the following endorsement: ``I most sincerely wish you success/DG.'' The same letter addressed to William Nelson, representative from New York, under same date, and another copy without name of addressee, under date of June 4, are printed in Hertz, II, p. 599.

[2]   Written in at this point by Green: ``A. Yes.''
