Written on the envelope containing Copes' letter written from New Orleans, Louisiana, April 8, 1858, the endorsement has been added to by another hand, ``I must'' written above and ``that is so'' written below. Copes inquired about a tract of land in Sangamon County. Jesse A. Pickrell was a farmer living in the vicinity of the land in question.
