. . . . On this occasion he went over the whole battle field of the two great contending armies, one for and the other against slavery and slave labor, and showed, most triumphantly, that our young, gallant and world-renowned commander was the man for the day---the man to right the ship of State, and, like the stripling of Israel, to slay the boasting Goliaths of slaveocracy that have beset the national capitol and defiled the sanctums of liberty, erected and consecrated by the old prophets and fathers of this republic.
