[1]   ALS, IHi. The letter carries in addition the following endorsement: ``I concur in the propriety of running Judge Logan---as he has consented. He would I think be elected easier than Mr Walker. This side of the river. Mr Walker is almost wholly out of public notice. Personally I esteem Mr Walker highly & would be glad to see him elected D DAVIS''

[4]   Pinkney H. Walker of McDonough County is probably referred to. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Illinois in February, 1858 and elected to the same office in June following.
