Dear Doctor: Springfield, March 8. 1855

Your letter duly received. I guess you brought your suit wrong. No other than an action of Covenant---not debt---will lie on the lease a copy of which you sent me. With this is a set of papers complete, for a new suit in the right form. If, however, the only responsable man is dead, there is no use of bringing a new suit, or in prossecuting the old one. You can get no judgment against his estate in that way. You must file the claim in the Probate court; or wait the year & then sue his administrator. Yours as ever

A. LINCOLN
