Annotation

[1]   ALS, Private Collector Hugh Lemaster, editor of the Fulton County Republican at Lewistown, Illinois, answered on December 11 that he had ``conversed with some of our most prominent (working) Whigs and they all say elect Lincoln. I have not seen Judge [William] Kellogg nor Rep. [Amos C.] Babcock. . . . I am satisfied that Judge will favor your election. . . . A. C. Babcock is a man of small stature . . . but a true Whig . . . & . . . will soon learn his duty.'' (DLC-RTL).
