Lacey of the Post Office Department Appointment Office, dated January 22, 1849. Lacey requests Lincoln to transmit enclosures concerning appointment of a new postmaster at Beardstown, Illinois, to ``some neighboring Postmaster---or other reliable person,'' who will notify citizens to send in expressions of their wishes concerning a new appointment.
