We, the undersigned citizens of Springfield, understanding that GOVERNOR KOSSUTH will probably soon be in Indianapolis, Indiana, on his way to St. Louis, respectfully request the citizens of Springfield, to meet at the Court House, on Monday (THIS) Evening, 26th inst., for the purpose of taking measures to invite him to Springfield.

[1] Illinois Journal, January 26, 1852. The names of sixty-three citizens, including Lincoln's, are appended to the notice. Lincoln was appointed one of a committee of thirteen instructed to extend the invitation. When the meeting reconvened the next day, none of the committee appeared, and a second committee of nine, including Lincoln, was appointed. This committee met on January 29. There are no further references in the Journal.
