I this day commence the suit against Turley.2Jump to section It will not be for trial till October.3Jump to section I return you the Letters. You see a certificate I have written in blank, which you must have filled and signed by the present presiding judge of the Probate Court. Be sure that the blanks are all filled, and the signature added. Then return the paper to me at Springfield, Ills. Yours &c. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   ALS-P, ISLA. Lewis M. Hays was a resident of Gosport, Indiana.

[2]   George W. Turley was one of the founders of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois.

[3]   Lincoln finally got judgment for Hays and collected the debt September 7, 1853. For further correspondence about this case see letters to Hays, October 27, 1852, and September 8, 1853, infra.
