Mr. Wilson: Springfield Illinois January 1851

Take care of this boy until to-morrow, or longer if the weather is bad, and send the bill to me. A. LINCOLN.

Annotation

[1]   Tracy, p. 45. The boy is identified by Tracy as ``Gilbert J. Greene, who set type in the New York Tribune office.'' The originals of this note and the one to Wallace (infra) have not been found. Advertisements in the Illinois Journal of this period list the proprietors of the Globe Tavern in Springfield as ``Chamblin & Wilson.''
