[1]   ALS, IHi. Abram Bale was a Baptist preacher residing at Petersburg, Illinois. Lincoln misspells his first name.

[2]   Addison or Horace Hickox, brothers who operated a mill to which Bale probably took his wheat. Virgil Hickox was a prominent Springfield merchant.
