Dear Sir: July 6. 1848

Joab Wilkinson,2Open page who was a Captain, or a Lieutenant, (I forget which) in the Regiment commanded by Col: Henry L. Webb,3Open page resigned his commission, and now desires a restoration. I have seen many testimonials in his favor, from his brother officers, and particularly, one from Col. Webb; am myself personally acquainted with him, from all which I shall be much gratified, if he shall be restored.

Another matter: Elias B. Zabriskie,4Open page of Jacksonville, Illinois, has been an applicant for a Lieutenancy, and the close of the war putting an end to all prospect of his success, he desires me to withdraw the papers recommending him, and send them to him.
