A young man by the name of Andrew Hodge, went to Mexico as a volunteer in Capt. Elkin's2Jump to section company in the 4th. Regiment of Illinois volunteers, command[ed] by Col. Baker.3Jump to section He died somewhere on the Rio Grande in the fall of 1846. His father, W. H. Hodge,4Jump to section wishes to draw the arrearage of his pay, and also to get his land warrant. He writes me that he sent the papers to your office last summer, and received a note from you acknowledging the receipt of them, since when, he has heard nothing about the matter. Will you please inform me what, if any thing, I can do to advance the matter? Very Respectfully A. LINCOLN.
