A young man by the name of Andrew Hodge, went to Mexico as a volunteer in Capt. Elkin's2Open page company in the 4th. Regiment of Illinois volunteers, command[ed] by Col. Baker.3Open page He died somewhere on the Rio Grande in the fall of 1846. His father, W. H. Hodge,4Open page wishes to draw the arrearage of his pay, and also to get his land warrant. He writes me that he sent the papers to your office last summer, and received a note from you acknowledging the receipt of them, since when, he has heard nothing about the matter.
