Amendment Introduced in Illinois Legislature to an Act to Amend an Act to Incorporate the City of Springfield1Jump to section
[February 17, 1841]
Amend said Bill by striking out all of the first section after the word ``repealed'' in the eighth line thereof, and inserting the following towit:

``and hereafter every Inhabitant of said City who is intitled to vote for state officers, and who has the requisite length of residence according to the act to which this is an amendment, shall be2Jump to section eligible to the office of Mayor or Alderman of said City.''

[1] AD, I-Ar. The Senate bill introduced by Archer G. Herndon of Sangamon County, ``An act to amend an act to incorporate the City of Springfield, approved February 3, 1840,'' passed the House with Lincoln's amendment on February 17, 1841, and the Senate concurred. The entire act may be found in Laws of Illinois, 1841, pp. 61-62.
