Resolution Introduced in Illinois Legislature on Election Frauds1Jump to section

[November 28, 1840]

Resolved, that so much of the Governors Message as relates to fraudulent voting, and other fraudulent practices at elections, be refered to the committee on elections, with instructions to said committee to prepare and report to this House, a Bill for such an act as may, in their judgement, afford the greatest possible protection of the elective franchise, against all frauds of all sorts whatever.

Annotation

[1]   AD, I-Ar. Lincoln's resolution was amended by John A. McClernand, representative from Gallatin County, to refer the investigation to a joint select committee instead of the committee on elections, and was adopted as amended.
