Annotation

[1]   AD, I-Ar. Lincoln wrote and introduced the bill on January 10, 1840, from a select committee to which a petition requesting location of the road had been referred. Again referred to a second select committee of which Lincoln was a member, the bill was amended and reported on January 17, with sundry amendments, by Newton Cloud, representative from Morgan County. The bill as amended and passed by both houses may be found in Laws of Illinois, 1840, p. 64.

[2]   The name of John J. Lemon has been deleted and the name of Franklin Minor inserted, not in Lincoln's hand.

[3]   Sections 4, 5, and 6 as printed in Laws of Illinois were amendments reported by Cloud on January 17.
